- Part 2: Building Traffic To your Domain Name

Building Traffic To Your Domain.

When it comes to valuing your domain name, the higher your traffic the more valuable it will be. The question is, how do you legitimately create a steady flow of traffic into your website without spamming people? Don’t worry—it can be done.

You first step is, of course, to develop your site. You won’t get much traffic if your site leads to an error page of a sales page, but you will get traffic if you develop a functioning website, park your domain name, or join an affiliate program. There are all great places to start if you want lots of visitors. However, no matter how much time you spend creating a neat-looking website, no one will come to visit it if you don’t get the word out. Promoting your site is extremely crucial.

And when you’re talking about promoting, the name of the game is links. You can increase your page views hundreds of times over by getting your domain name linked in a number of places. There are some domain name directories that will link your name for a price, but a better choice is simply to have great content or a unique idea and then approach others asking for them to link you. Find a service people need and run with it.

If that sounds like a lot of work for your domain names (and it is), you can try some other approaches to drawing in traffic as well. The best way to do that is with search engine optimization, the dreaded SEO I’ve been talking about. This concept confuses many people, but once you learn the ins and outs, SEO is a relatively simply concept. You can buy software and hire writers to help you with this, or you can go at it on your own.

The basic concept behind search engine optimization is that people are using Google, Yahoo!, Hot Box, and other search tools on the Internet to find websites. Think abou thtat for a moment. If you want to buy a used car, are you going to type www.usedcars.com into your web browser or are you going to go to www.google.com and search for “used cars” and see what advice they give you? In most cases, you’ll head straight to the search engine. People see this as most reliable.

Identify the major keywords associated with your domain name. For example, if you want to drive traffic to www.PrintingSupplies.com, some of your major keywords might be printers, printing jobs, printer parts, printer supplies, inkjet printers, buy ink, buy a printer, and so forth. Again, there are services that can identify these words for you. To optimize your site, take these words, and include them on your site multiple times. If you use the term “buy printer parts” on your main page 50 times and then type “buy printer parts” into Google’s search box, your site should pop up, ranker pretty highly. SEO tools really do work to drive traffic to your site.

Of course, building traffic takes time. When you develop your domain name, don’t expect to see thousands of viewers every day right away. Remember, domain name buying and selling that make the most money are long-term investments. You have to be fully involved with your names to make the most money possible!
